Lifting up the World With a Oneness-Heart
Presented to men, women and children from all walks of life, the Lifting Up the World with a Oneness-Heart Award honours people who have helped to raise the standard of humanity.
Some of the most notable recipients include: spiritual leaders such as Mother Teresa and Archbishop Desmond Tutu; world leaders like President Nelson Mandela and President Mary Robinson; UN leaders like Javier Pérez de Cuellar; musicians such as Sting, Roberta Flack, Ravi Shankar, Janos Starker and Wyclef Jean; athletes like Muhammad Ali, Cal Lewis, Bill Pearl, Grank Zane, Billie Jean Kind and Martina Navratilova; professors like Dr. Jane Goodall; and humanitarians such as Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon.
Sri Chinmoy honours each recipient in a singularly spectacular fashion – by lifting them overhead on a specially-made platform. Sri Chinmoy has lifted persons of all sizes, including the world sumo champion Asashoryu, as well as a man weighting over 700 pounds, as a way of congratulating him for loosing over 100 pounds.
This unique programme has grown into a family of recipients from over 100 nations, representing all faiths and backgrounds, a truly global movement of encouragement and goodwill.
